Dickey Ray Mizell

Dickey Ray Mizell of Granite City, Illinois was born on September 20, 1943 in Metropolis, Illinois to the union of Donald O. "Pete" and Florence C. (Nee: Whalen) Mizell and left from this life on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at his home at the age of 72 years. Dickey served his country from 1960 to 1962 in the United States Air Force. Dickey was united marriage to Sandra Sue Jeffords on March 22, 1966 and they are the proud parents of three sons: Tim, Don and Jason. Dickey and Sue moved to Granite City in 1969. Dickey worked many years for Mercer-Thomas Mortuaries in Granite City and served as a Madison County Deputy Coroner. He then went on to work as a Legal Investigator for Talbert & Mallon Law Firm in Alton, IL and Williams & Caponi Law Firm in Belleville, IL. He was a Past Governor of the Granite City Moose Lodge #272 and a former member of the National Association of Legal Investigators, Granite City Jaycees and the AMVETS. He also served as a Granite City Precinct Committeeman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards, playing poker and was known for his Barbeque. He was a St. Louis Cardinal's fan and watched Days of Our Lives for years. Dickey is preceded in death by his parents Donald O. "Pete" Mizell and Florence C. (Whalen) Dotson; one brother Robert J. Mizell; one sister Mary Helen Medley; father-in-law and mother-in-law Charles Leslie Jeffords and Rhudell Jeffords; two brothers-in-law Berle Parr and Wesley Smithart; one niece Brenda K. Worthen; two nephews Ricky and James Parmer. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his wife of fifty years Sandra Sue Mizell of Granite City, IL; three sons Tim Mizell and friend Julie of Granite City, IL, Don and wife Lesa Mizell of Cuba, MO, Jason and wife Jessica Mizell of St. Louis, MO; like a son Gary and wife Julie Sellers of Highland, IL; nine grandchildren Noah, Isaiah, Amanda, Jaime, Kayla, Drew, Dillan, Brenna and Leah; two sisters Marcia K. Smithart of Durant, OK, Stephanie Parr of Metropolis, IL; daughter-in-law Debye Mizell of Granite City, IL; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Patricia A. and Ellis Reynolds of Granite City, IL, Mary E. Mizell and Howard Medley of Metropolis, IL; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Irwin Chapel 3960 Maryville Rd. Granite City, IL Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 7:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel with Lesa Mizell, officiating. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 3:00 p.m. at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golconda, Illinois.
