Lawrence M. Elrod of Cuba, Missouri was born on Tuesday, November 19, 1929 in Vienna, Missouri to the union of William “Bill” and Catherine (Nee: Franklin) Elrod. He left from this life on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri at the age of 90 years.

Lawrence was united in marriage to Marlene Cox on Tuesday, November 7, 1950 in Bentonville, Arkansas, and they became the proud parents of Larry and Michael.

Lawrence graduated from Belle High School and then went on to graduate from Lincoln University with a Bachelors’ Degree in Education.

He served his country honorably in United States Army during the Korean War from 1949 to June 1951.

After many years of teaching English to high school students, Lawrence retired from Crawford County RII School District. After retirement, Lawrence went back to work as a salesman for Jim’s Motors and he retired the second time at the age of 70. He was a longtime member and Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Cuba.

He enjoyed spending time and playing pool at the Cuba Senior Center. He was a lifetime fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Mission work was something Lawrence enjoyed most. What he truly treasured most in life was spending time with his family and friends.

He was a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents William “Bill” and Catherine (Franklin) Elrod; two sisters Opal and husband Barry Keeney, Imogene and husband Hale Keeney; two brothers Elmer Elrod, Clyde and wife Margie Elrod and other family and friends.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of sixty-nine years Marlene Elrod of Cuba, Missouri; two sons Larry and wife Soni Elrod of Neosho, Missouri, Mike and wife Christine Elrod of Northbridge, Massachusetts; four grandchildren Dane and wife Michelle Elrod of St. Charles, Missouri, Drew and wife Stephanie Elrod of Carthage, Missouri, Jason and wife Lexi Elrod of Guyton, Georgia, Melissa Elrod of Orlando, Florida; one sister-in-law Verna Elrod of Jefferson City, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Due to COVID-19, and for the health and safety of everyone, a Private Graveside Service will be held at Kinder Cemetery, with Pastor Woodrow Martin and Pastor Jim Moore, officiating.

If desired, memorials would be appreciated to the Cuba Senior Center or First Baptist Church of Cuba in Lawrence’s memory.

The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Elrod family.

My condolences to Marlene and the family. I enjoyed the years he and I worked together. He was always thinking-- and taught me a thing or three.

Lawrence was one of the finest men I have known, I considered him a wonderful brother in Christ and a good friend. He was a good Deacon, he didn't say much, but when he did you needed to listen. i also enjoyed going to the Senior Center and watch him play pool with the other guys and some times they would even let me play with them. Marlene and Lawrence were very good friends to Judy and me. We will be praying for Marlene and the family.
