Obituary

Betty Wanda Staples of Cuba, Missouri was born Monday, February 1, 1932 at St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Walter W. Sr. and Jesse Laura (Nee: Stallings) Lee. She left from this life, surrounded by family, on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Cuba Manor at the age of 88 years.

Betty was united in marriage to Lindell Staples on Sunday, October 31, 1948 at Berryman and they were the proud parents of Janet, Lenny, and Kenneth. Betty found Jesus as her Savior and was baptized in 1967 at the Cuba Church of God.

Betty spent her life taking care of her family and her home. Betty was an excellent housekeeper, great cook and everyone loved her pan-fried chicken. Betty treasured family gatherings and cooking for her entire family.

She spent hours working in her flower gardens and reading. She always watched the Price of Right and you did not bother her at 6:30 each evening because Wheel of Fortune was on. Betty was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. What Betty absolutely loved most in life was spending time with her family.

Betty was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt, sister-in-law, and friend of many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Laura Lee; husband Lindell Staples; one grandson Joshua W. Staples; one brother Dennis Lee; one sister June and husband Melvin Garrison; brothers-in-law Don Yoakum, Alan Bruton and James Wm. Staples; sisters-in-law Iva Jean Staples and Mary Lou Harmon and other family and friends.

Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her loving children, Janet and husband Roger Taber, Lenny Staples and Kenneth and wife Anna “Mert” Staples all of Cuba; seven grandchildren, Shane and wife Tracy Staples of Cuba, Shari and husband Chris Alligood of Houston, Texas, Jodi Cook of Park Hills, Missouri, Bart and wife Michelle Staples of Washington, Missouri, Gabriel and wife Michelle Taber of Potosi, Vanessa Taber of Nashville, Tennessee, Tyler and husband Luke Rekie of Jefferson City; fourteen great grandchildren, Kayla, Josh, Seth, Adam, Dylan, Alyson, Justin, Kiyah, Aden, Ava, Naomi, Eli, Tallulah, Kia; one great-great grandchild Natana; two brothers Walt and wife Joyce Lee and Jim and wife Joyce Lee of Cuba; two sisters Norma Yoakum of Washington, Missouri and Marian Bruton of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Judy Staples of Farmington, Missouri; brother-in-law Ervin Harmon of Huzzah; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Private family visitation and funeral service was held Monday, May 11, 2020 at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba with Pastor Roger Taber officiating. Special recorded music was “How Great Thou Art”, “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” and “Serenaded by Angels”.

Interment and prayers followed at Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba.
