Harold Gene “Benny” Byrd of Leasburg, Missouri was born on July 24, 1934 in Wesco, Missouri to the union of James and Ruth (Hammond) Byrd. He left from this life on Monday, April 13, 2020 at Life Care Center in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 85 years.

Benny was a retiree of the Bricklayers Union and worked most of his career for Koelling’s Bricklaying Company in Union, Missouri. He also retired as an MP, with over thirty years of service in United States National Guard of St. Clair, Missouri.
Benny enjoyed fishing, hunting and he always put out a garden every spring. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Benny is preceded in death by his parents James and Ruth (Hammond) Byrd; three brothers Claude, Cordell and Richard Byrd.
Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of sixty-four years Betty Byrd (nee: Carey) of Leasburg, Missouri; three children Kathy Byrd of Cuba, Missouri, Karen Byrd-Ivie and husband Mike of Cuba, Missouri, Keith Byrd of Leasburg, Missouri; eight grandchildren Tracy Dace, III of Bourbon, Missouri, James “JC” Lowman of Leasburg, Missouri, Alisha Lowman and Leah Nilges both of Cuba, Missouri, Joseph Nilges of California, Sarah Byrd and Carey Byrd both of St. Louis, Missouri, Emmy Byrd of Arnold, Missouri; one brother Ronald Byrd and wife Glenda of Leasburg, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Private services will be held at Lea Cemetery in Leasburg, Missouri.
