Obituary

Robert Thomas “Bob” Copling of Leasburg, Missouri was born Sunday, August 9, 1925 at Tison, Missouri to the union of Arthur and Merle (Nee: Mise) Copling. He left from this life, surrounded by family, on Friday, February 7, 2020 at his home in Leasburg at the age of 94 years.

Bob proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, during WWII, from October 15, 1943 till December 24, 1945. He was united in marriage to Christena Ellen Reiner on Sunday, August 15, 1948 at Leasburg, Missouri. They were the proud parents of Nancy and Robert.

Bob worked in construction most of his life. He worked at Mid-State Lumber for nearly twenty-five years. There wasn’t any carpentry work that Bob couldn’t do. He was an electrician, plumber, roofer, painter and carpenter.

In his younger years, he enjoyed coon hunting, pitching for the local softball team and working. He was a devout member, deacon and song leader of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for over fifty years. For the last three years, Bob had been attending Calvary Assembly of God Church, Cuba.

For the last few years, Bob has been going to the Cuba Senior Center every day that it was open. You could find him sitting on the front porch, with his hound Hobo, this past year. Bob loved to sing old hymns and when he felt good, he was a jokester. What Bob loved most in life, was spending time with his family and friends.

Bob was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, great-great uncle, cousin and friend of many. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Merle Copling; wife Christena Ellen Copling; grandson Jimmy Umfress; great grandson Chad Umfress; five sisters, Georgia and husband Frank Leibensperger, Hester and husband Henry Land, Helen and husband James Reiner, Geneva and husband Orville Richardson, Ethel Adams; two brothers, Herbert and wife Rosie Copling, Arthur and wife Margaret Copling; brothers-in-law Walter Reiner, Robert Reiner, Gene Niedbalksi, sister-in-law Loretta White and other relatives and friends.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving children, Nancy and husband James Umfress of Cuba, Robert and wife Mary Copling of Leasburg; four grandchildren, Amy and husband Robert Kelly of Leasburg, David and wife Angela Copling of Leasburg, Travis Umfress, Robert Umfress; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law Joe White of St. James, formerly of Leasburg; sister-in-law Barbara Niedbalski of Cuba, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
