Obituary for Agnes Louise Cook (Walls)

Agnes Louise Cook (Walls)
Agnes Louise Cook of Cuba, Missouri was born Monday, May 31, 1937 at Leasburg, Missouri to the union of Samuel and Noda Pyatt Walls and left from this life on Monday, January 15, 2018 at her home in Cuba at the age of 80 years.

Agnes graduated from Southeast Missouri State College (SEMO). After graduation she moved to St. Louis and began her teaching career. In 1978 Agnes moved to Cuba and went to work for Cuba Elementary School as a Kindergarten Teacher. Twenty-one years later, 1999, Agnes turned in her chalk and erasers and retired.

Agnes loved being a teacher and every year she would sew letter people and give to her students for Christmas. Agnes kept a diary and each year she would list the high school graduates that were her students, when they were in kindergarten. As years passed, Agnes was happy that her students remembered her, because she always remembered them. Agnes received the “Lifetime Teachers Certificate”.

Agnes was an avid reader, enjoyed working in her flower gardens, sewing and she wrote daily in her diary. The book “Me My Dolls My Books and Me” was written and published by Agnes from her 1938 to 2002 diaries. She then went on to write and publish “Soldiers Correspondence” from letters her brother sent home daily from the war. The last book she wrote and published was “Bible Study”.

Agnes loved animals, especially her cat “Billy” and her dog “Sally”. What she loved most in life was her students, her friends and her family.

Agnes was a loving daughter, sister, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, teacher and friend of many. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Sam and Noda Walls, three brothers; Jim, Jerry and Dave Walls and other family and friends.

Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her loving children; Terry Cook of Cuba, Sam and wife Vicki Cook of Cuba and Jim and wife Stephanie Cook of Raleigh, North Carolina, four grandchildren; Andrew Cook of Columbus, Ohio, Alex and husband Craig Surber of Durham, North Carolina, Kayla Cook of Raleigh, North Carolina and Justin Cook of Columbus, Ohio, one brother; Alvin Walls of St. Louis, nieces, nephews, many students and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 11:00 am till 2:00 pm at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba, Missouri.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba. Special recorded music will be “Amazing Grace” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “I’ll Fly Away”.

Prayers and interment will follow at the Lea Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family or to the Cuba Backpack Program.

The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Cook family.
