Obituary for Greeba Shaw (Rains)

Greeba Shaw (Rains)
Greeba A. Shaw of Cuba, Missouri was born October 9, 1921 at Leslie, Arkansas to the union of Hughie and Arkie (Nee: King) Rains and left from this life, surrounded by family, on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at her home in Cuba at the age of 95 years.

Greeba was united in marriage to Floyd M. Shaw on February 22, 1946 at Marshall, Arkansas and they were the proud parents nine children; Jimmy, Elsie, Dorothy, Linda, David, Gail, Charles, Howard and Connie. They were happily married for sixty-nine years before Floyd passed away February 20, 2015.

Greeba spent her life taking care of her family and home. Her smile would light up a room especially when she was holding a baby. Every spring she would be outside working in her garden and her flowers were the prettiest ones on the block. She would spend hours every summer canning vegetables from the garden. In her younger years Greeba sewed and embroidered. Her embroidered blocks were made into beautiful quilts.

She attended the Church of God World Wide for many years, she read her bible daily and was very devout in her faith.

Greeba was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt, sister-in-law and friend of many. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her apparent Hughie and Arkie Rains, husband Floyd M. Shaw, children; James “Jimmy” Shaw, infant Elsie Sandra Shaw and five-hour-old Connie Shaw, three sisters; Marjorie and husband Wilbur Caid, Maureen and husband Doyle Shaw and infant Emily Rains, four brothers; Rudolph Rains, Ralph Rains, Clifton Rains and Mitchell Rains, sister-in-law Vivian Shaw and other family and friends.

Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her loving children; Dorothy and husband Jim Prater of Grubville, Missouri, Linda and husband Gil Henke of Cuba, David and wife Joanne Shaw of Cuba, Gail and husband Michael Blunt of Bourbon, Charles and wife Sherry Shaw of DeSoto and Howard and wife Patty Shaw of Emden, Missouri, twenty grandchildren, many great grandchildren, brother Braxton and wife Nellie Rains of Leslie, Arkansas, sisters-in-law Wally Rains of Cedar Hill, Missouri, Louise Rains of Denard, Arkansas and Mildred and husband Wes DeProw of Ellisville, Missouri, brothers-in-law Lawrence and wife Bobbie Shaw of Fenton, Fred and wife Lois Shaw of Panama Beach, Florida, Aden Shaw of Lesterville, Missouri, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 3:00 till 6:00 p.m. at the Mizell Funeral Home, 904 W Washington Street, Cuba.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba with Mr. Al Buchanan officiating. Special music will be “To Old to Die Young”, “I’ll Fly Away”, “Momma This One’s for You”, “The Lord is My Shepard” and “God Be with Us Until We Meet Again”.

Interment and prayers will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 2, 2017 at Yount Cemetery, Garwood, Missouri. Honored to serve as pall bearers, will be grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lifeline Pregnancy Center, 201 Lucia Avenue, Cuba, Missouri in Greeba’s memory.
