Obituary for George William Grady

George William Grady
George William Grady of Cuba, MO was born to the union of Bernard and Eva Jeanne Grady on June 26, 1940 in Portageville, Missouri. He left from this life after a long illness surrounded by family on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the age of 76 years.

George was a 1958 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School and a 1962 graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology with a degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering. He married Judith (Strahl) Grady on December 1, 1962; they met on a blind date setup by the local Episcopalian minister (although George was a lifelong Methodist!).

George started his career at the Missouri Inspection Bureau (currently the Insurance Service Organization) and then moved on to Kemper Insurance for a short time. Finally, from 1975-1995 he was employed at RR Donnelley and Sons in Chicago, IL, where he eventually became the Corporate Safety Director. In his role with RR Donnelley, he travelled extensively to plant sites all over the world to oversee safety procedures at each location. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois for the majority of his professional life.

George was a former member of Gary Memorial United Methodist Church in Wheaton, IL and a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church. He was a passionate Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed taking his boat on the lake, especially with his grandsons.

George is preceded in death by his father Bernard C. Grady; one brother-in-law Dr. Carl Clanahan.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his wife, Judith of Cuba, MO; mother, Eva Jeanne Grady of Poplar Bluff, MO; two children Dr. Brian (Gina) Grady of Norman OK and Patty (Andrew) of Elmhurst, IL: ten grandchildren Ian, Nate and Luke Grady as well as Forest, Owen and Boomer Myers all of Norman, OK, Quinn and Aidan Rafferty of Elmhurst, IL, Maclyn (Kristen) Myers of Goldsboro, NC and Chris (Kassy) Malone of Oklahoma City, OK; one great-grandchild, Mason Malone; two sisters Julia Clanahan and Mary (Bill) Humble, both of Poplar Bluff, MO ; brothers Robert (Jo Ann) Grady of Cuba, MO, Bruce (Marlene) Grady and Mike Grady of Houston, TX; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2017 1;00 p.m. at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home 366 College St. Poplar Bluff, Missouri with Rev. David Huck, officiating.
